Trainer George Scott celebrated his first Newmarket triumph thanks to Fieldsman who lunged late to land the Betfair Tap Tap Boom Handicap.
Scott, a former assistant to Lady Cecil, hit the post at his local track 24 hours earlier when George Cinq finished third, beaten half a length.
But he was all smiles after Fieldsman got up in the closing strides to deny Ghalib by a head.
Jockey Silvestre de Sousa timed things to perfection on the 12-1 shot, who burst up the fair rail.
Scott, 27, said: "We just got nailed on the line on Friday, so I thought our Newmarket moment had passed!
"It is fantastic when you've been an assistant for eight years to come and have a winner here. It is very special as it's our home.
"Silvestre gave him a lovely ride. He just backed off him in the mid-part of the race, filled him up and he has hit the line really well."
