Darren Egan is expected to be absent for a few days as he recovers from a frightening-looking fall on Derby Day at Epsom.

The young apprentice, from County Longford, was thrown to the ground when Star Date came down in the opening race, the Diamond Jubilee Handicap, and he was treated on the track for some time before being taken to hospital for X-rays.

He is based with Chepstow trainer Ron Harris, who said: "It was a horrible fall but thankfully he hasn't broken anything. He's gone back to Ireland for a little while and I imagine he'd be taking the week off."
