Race Verdict

A race that includes the first (Countrywide Flame), third (Grumeti), fourth (Dodging Bullets) and sixth (Sadler's Risk) home in the JCB Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham last month and, with less than 10-lengths splitting those runners that day, it's likely to they will all be closely matched again but it's PEARL SAWN, a last-flight faller in that Grade 1 contest, who edges the vote. Representing the Paul Nicholls stable who won this race 12 months ago with Zarkander, he is a gelding who appears to be improving with each run and it's interesting that Ruby Walsh opts to ride him again over stablemate's Dodging Bullets and Hinterland. The latter should arrive fresher than most having bypassed Cheltenham and this early season Triumph favourite can't be ruled out.
