Fell at the 2nd when 25-1 in the Group 1 Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase at Cheltenham over 3m 2f (good) in a Grade 1 chase won by Synchronised last month on his latest outing.
Burton Port ran a blinder to finish fourth in the Gold Cup and he is sure to prove a popular selection but slight preference is for his stablemate RIVERSIDE THEATRE. He showed plenty of guts to edge out Albertas Run over 2m5f in the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and providing his stamina holds out over 3m1f today, he looks sure to go close. Medermit was a close third in the Ryanair and finished runner-up to the selection at Ascot prior to that so he has obvious place claims once more. Hunt Ball has made astounding progress this season and his Cheltenham handicap success was his seventh win in a campaign which has seen him rise a phenomenal 86lb in the ratings. This is tougher still and he has stamina to prove but it would not be a huge surprise to see him run well. Nacarat won this last year and he is entitled to give another good account, while 2010 winner What A Friend, an early faller in the Gold Cup, also merits consideration.
