Race Verdict

DARLAN had to settle for second behind Cinders And Ashes in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham, and it remains to be seen what that run has taken out of him, but he sets the standard for the others to aim at and he should take the beating. Prospect Wells finished just behind him in fifth on that occasion and he looks the main danger. However, Paul Nicholls' representative had previously finished well beaten behind Captain Conan at Sandown in January and although he has been slightly disappointing in two runs since, the apparent Nicky Henderson second-string might be worth a second look here. The Henderson third string, Oscara Dara, could barely have been more impressive on his hurdling debut at Sandown and it would be folly to rule him out completely.
