John Ferguson went very close with New Year's Eve in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham and looks to have another outstanding candidate here in the shape of POPULATION. The five-year-old has lived up to his classy Flat pedigree with two impressive victories under Jack Quinlan at Ascot and the booking of A P McCoy today looks a tip in itself. It's interesting to see Jason Maguire opt for Sedgefield winner Howaboutnow over the undefeated Ifyousayso, who really impressed when scoring by 10 lengths at Bangor last month, but the biggest danger to the selection could be Nicky Henderson's apparent first-string My Tent Or Yours. He lost his unbeaten record at Newbury but certainly went down fighting and it might just have taught him something.
