Race Entries

Entries may be made online, through the British Horseracing Authority’s Racing Administration internet site (www.racingadmin.co.uk), or via Weatherbys Racing Operations Call Centre. For most races, entries under Rules close five or six days in advance of the race although, on numerous occasions throughout the winter of 2012/13, we had emergency fixtures where entries closed as few as three days before the race. We also rearranged the staging of some top class jump races at short notice, such as The Victor Chandler Steeple Chase and The Coral Welsh National.

Entries for major races may close several weeks in advance and, in the case of The Derby, on the first Tuesday in December of the horse’s yearling year, some 18 months ahead of the race.

Telephonic entries for Point-to-Point races close at 12.30pm on the Monday prior to the race. The declaration stage for these events takes place on race day, so does not involve the Call Centre.

Although the majority of owners prefer to leave decisions up to their trainer about where and when their horse will run, it is possible for owners to make entries and declarations themselves. The Racing Desk issues the necessary security codes to allow you to do this.

Did you know...

in 2012, there were just under a quarter of a million entries for British races? 243,563 to be precise!
