In 1996 Weatherbys was asked by the Saudi Arabian Equestrian Club to provide stud book services for their developing breeding industry. The aim of this agreement was to provide high quality stud book services to Saudi Arabian breeders. This was duly achieved through the approval, and subsequent publication, of Volume 1 of the Saudi Arabian Stud Book in 1999. The Stud Book office is located in Riyadh where it employs a team of 4 people. They are in turn supported by the Stud Book International team at Wellingborough.
The Saudi Arabian Stud Book has continued to grow each year with in excess of 5,000 foals having been registered. In Spring 2005, Volume 2 was published in a CD ROM format, making Saudi Arabia one of the first countries to adopt this method of publishing their Stud Book. In late 2005, the first Return of Mares for Saudi Arabia was also published and provides details of both the Thoroughbred and Non-Thoroughbred Register activities of the country on an annual basis.
