Medburn Cutler, the complete outsider in a field of 10, took the staying honours in Newbury's Compton Beauchamp Estates Ltd Silver Bar Handicap.

Having his second run for Peter Hedger, Medburn Cutler was 4lb wrong in the weights but was still able to land the spoils under a strong ride by Joe Fanning.

Making his bid early in the straight, the 25-1 shot soon held pole position on the far rail and just held the late dash of 7-2 favourite Coeur De Lion by a neck.

Hedger said: "That was his second run for me after a long break and I thought he was going to need it.

"He made his debut for me only 48 hours after walking into the yard, and after that Newmarket run I put him away for the winter.

"I'm over the moon with him. The plan was to go to Goodwood on May 5, but after that he's no longer qualified."

Gracious John (6-1) came out on top in a battle of the speedsters in the Dubai Duty Free Handicap.
