2018 will mark the 25th anniversary of Weatherbys Ireland’s sponsorship of the Greenlands Stakes and the sponsor have been rewarded with a very high class entry for this year’s race. These include leading performers Washington DC, G Force, The Tin Man, Harry Angel and last year’s winner Gordon Lord Byron (pictured).

That horse’s trainer Tom Hogan was delighted with the run in the Abernant Stakes at Newmarket today. He said: “We were very pleased with Gordon Lord Byron’s performance today. He would have appreciated a truer run race and Billy Lee said the horse gave him a good feel but the race didn’t play out in a way that suited him.

"He will enjoy the stiffer six furlongs at the Curragh so he will almost certainly go for the Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes to defend his crown!”

Russell Ferris CEO of Weatherbys Ireland General Stud Book commented: “We enjoy a wonderful relationship with the Curragh and are delighted to support the racecourse and the industry as a whole through our sponsorship of The Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes.

"It as a race that has been won by top class horses such as College Chapel, Namid, Slade Power and the evergreen Gordon Lord Byron last year. This year’s race looks like it could be one of the strongest in many years.”
