"There was no front-runner in there, so I was happy enough to get across from my draw. It turned into a bit of a sprint at the end but my lad didn't mind that."

Lapilli (15-8 favourite) showed a decisive turn of foot to stamp his authority on the totetrifecta Handicap and give trainer William Haggas a winner on his 56th birthday.

The lightly-raced three-year-old gelding was held up off the pace set by Fine 'N Dandy early on until apprentice Georgia Cox asked him to go and win his race.

He shot through a gap a furlong out and was soon in command, going on to score by three lengths from Burning Thread.
