Tom Marquand has made the final three nominations for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award.

This year's champion Flat apprentice, 17, was one of 10 contenders for the much-coveted prize before the field was narrowed down.

The shortlist was selected by a panel, from nominations made to the BBC and by sports governing bodies via the Youth Sport Trust and in partnership with Blue Peter.

The overall winner will be announced live on December 20, when Belfast hosts Sports Personality of the Year 2015.

The other hopefuls are gymnast Ellie Downie, 16, and 18-year-old para-swimmer Tulla Kearney.

Will Roberts, assistant director at Youth Sport Trust, said: "It is really inspiring to see such great talent coming through in the world of sport.

"We had a difficult time narrowing the list down from ten to three as all of these young sports men and women have a dazzling future ahead of them and have shone brightly in 2015.

"We wish them all the best of luck for the night."
