Apprentice Gary Mahon faces a lengthy ban after being referred to the British Horseracing Authority by the Southwell stewards.

The 5lb claimer was found to have used his whip above the permitted level when finishing third on Nosey Barker in the Coral Maiden Stakes.

The matter was referred as the stewards felt the offence warranted a ban of between two and six days and that it was his fifth such suspension within the previous six months.

Ben Curtis picked up a two-day ban for a similar offence when partnering Westwood Hoe to victory in the Ladbrokes Handicap. He will be out on December 26 and 27.
