Glorious Days, winner of the Hong Kong Mile in 2013, is to be retired after falling out of love with racing.

The eight-year-old was beaten in six races following his Group One success two years ago and was sent from John Size's stable in Hong Kong to Ed Walker in Newmarket in an attempt to rekindle the gelding's enthusiasm.

However, Glorious Days misbehaved at Kempton on his first run for Walker last month. Reluctant to race, he unseated his rider shortly after the start.

"We're going to call it a day with him and retire him," said Walker.

"The trainer in Hong Kong, John Size, said the horse had lost his way and his love of the game and that was pretty evident with his behaviour at Kempton.

"He's been looking great and working well, he just hasn't the heart to race any more. He deserves his retirement.

"The plan was to bring him over here to freshen him up and maybe he could regain his form and go to Dubai, but if it didn't work out he'd be in a nice place to have a good retirement.

"We haven't finalised where he will go yet."

Glorious Days won eight of his 24 starts and amassed £2.6million in prize money.
