Ffos Las fixture subject to second inspection at midday

This afternoon's meeting at Ffos Las is in doubt once more after the track was hit by significant rain since a previous morning inspection was passed.

Conditions at the Carmarthenshire circuit were described as heavy but raceable earlier this morning after 10 millimetres of rain overnight, but clerk of the course Keith Ottesen felt it prudent to check on conditions at 9am due to the threat of further rain.

Ottesen initially gave the fixture the green light following that inspection, but conditions have worsened since and officials will now inspect again at midday to decide whether the high-profile fixture can go ahead.

Ottesen said: "It hasn't stopped raining since 9am. We've had 15 millimetres in the last couple of hours, which makes it about an inch of rain since yesterday.

"Conditions have deteriorated significantly and it's now a big issue. We have standing water in places.

"We've called an inspection for midday and we'll see where we are then."

The seven-race card is due to feature the Dribuild Ltd Welsh Champion Hurdle (2.05) and the Dribuild Construction West Wales National (3.15), with both races scheduled to be shown live on Channel 4.
