Kingmaker crucial in L'Ami Serge progression to Cheltenham

L'Ami Serge is the star name among nine entries for Saturday's Kingmaker Novices' Chase at Warwick.

Nicky Henderson's charge is two from two over fences and has also been given an entry in the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury on the same afternoon in case Warwick's meeting does not go ahead.

Anthony Bromley, racing manager to owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, said: "We've put him in the Game Spirit just as back up, but there are so few options for novices rated over 140 in February."

He went on: "He needs the experience, we're keen to get that third run in but there are literally no other options this month until Fontwell on February 28 and I'd say if you're aiming at that you're not running in the Arkle.

"We're now in the situation that if Warwick is off we'll have to take on Dodging Bullets in the Game Spirit, having not seen another horse in two runs over fences.

"Ironically there are plenty of options this month for three-mile novices -Towton, Reynoldstown and races at Warwick and Newbury this week - just nothing for two-milers.

"Ar Mad is running at Plumpton over two-mile-three in an open handicap. It just doesn't seem right when the Arkle is a blue riband event.

"They're unlikely to rearrange the Kingmaker so I hope it's on."

Gary Moore has entered Violet Dancer, winner of the Betfair Hurdle on the corresponding day last year, while Dan Skelton has given Willow's Saviour the option.

The Venetia Williams-trained Aso and Kerry Lee's Kylemore Lough are useful performers, with Fox Norton entered by Neil Mulholland.

David Pipe's Doctor Harper, Paul Nicholls' Sirabad and Jonjo O'Neill's The Saint James complete the list.
