Nina Carberry will miss the ride on hunter chase star On The Fringe at Leopardstown this weekend after suffering a back injury in a fall at Clonmel on Thursday.

Carberry steered the Enda Bolger-trained 11-year-old to major victories at Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown last spring and he is a hot favourite to retain his Foxhunter Chase crown on his return to Prestbury Park next month.

He makes his seasonal reappearance in the Leopardstown Inn Hunters Chase, but Carberry will watch on from the sidelines after being unseated from Bolger's Strangford Lough at Clonmel.

Carberry is based with trainer Noel Meade, who said: "Nina had a fall and she's gone for a scan on her back.

"She doesn't think it's serious, but it was quite sore, so she's going to have a couple of days off and get it checked out."

In Carberry's absence, On The Fringe will be partnered by another leading amateur rider in Jamie Codd.
