Rebecca Curtis runners dominate West Wales National field

Rebecca Curtis has shown her intent to back up last year's success in the Dribuild Construction West Wales National by being responsible for four of the seven runners in the Ffos Las stamina test on Saturday.

Leading her charge is Bob Ford, who lifted the prize 12 months ago when beating the only other finisher Gorgehous Lliege by a distance and will have to carry top weight of 11st 12lb for his pains, though the race this year is over two and a half furlongs shorter.

However, Curtis still expects a big run from the nine-year-old and she would not rule out decent shows from her other three runners, Red Devil Lads, Audacious Plan and Minella On Line either.

"Obviously Bob Ford loves it round there. He's got top weight but I expect another good run from him," said the Newport handler.

"Red Devil Lads also has good form round there. The ground might be a bit too soft for Audacious Plan, but we're hoping to go to the Kim Muir with him at Cheltenham so we are getting a run into him before then.

"Hopefully Minella On Line will go well. He's on a nice mark and has run well at the track in the past."

Nigel Twiston-Davies was baffled by Cogry's poor effort in the Coral Welsh National, for which he was sent off 8-1 favourite, and is hopeful the seven-year-old can put that behind him.

"He didn't run his race at Chepstow. I don't know what happened there. A lot of horses disappointed that day, " said the Naunton handler.

"He's in really good form. He has handled soft ground before so I'm hoping he can slosh through it down there. It will be very wet, but hopefully he will get through it."
