In-tune Lamar carries on good work at Lingfield

Lamar continued her excellent form on the all-weather with an emphatic victory in the Ladbrokes Conditions Stakes at Lingfield.

James Tate's 2-1 chance was only narrowly beaten in Listed company last month and was settled just behind a steady early gallop by Luke Morris, who kicked for home at the two-furlong pole and soon pulled clear.

Favourite Captain Cat was slow out of the stalls but picked up well in the home straight, although he was never going to catch Lamar, who recorded a three-length success with some ease.

Tate has managed to persuade Lamar's owner Saif Ali to postpone his plans to breed from her and a crack at the Winter Derby Trial could now be on the agenda.

"I knew she was going into the race off the back of a great preparation and she was at the top of her game," said Tate.

"In fact, she was so well I was thinking I wished it was a bigger race.

"She had the advantage of race fitness over her main rivals and she never looked in any danger.

"The covering season for mares doesn't start until mid-February so I'm just carrying on for now.

"She might get an entry in a race next week, but if not we could run her in the Winter Derby Trial over 10 furlongs on February 6."
