Paul Nicholls' trio set to raise their sights following Doncaster victories

Champion trainer Paul Nicholls appears to have put a rare quiet spell behind him and enjoyed watching three of his horses win at Doncaster from the beach in Barbados.

Nicholls is holidaying with owner John Hales as this is traditionally one of his quieter points of the season as his string undergoes their flu vaccinations.

The Ditcheat handler had a low-key Christmas period but a couple of successes in recent days appear to have marked the end of his cold run.

Bouvreuil (7-2), Le Prezien (1-4 favourite), Baoulet Delaroque (15-8) all now have loftier targets in their sights after impressive displays and the way they won suggests there is nothing at all amiss with Nicholls' string.

Bouvreuil had made his chasing debut in Grade One company behind Ar Mad and opened his account at the second attempt in the crownhotel-bawtry.com Novices' Chase.

Vyta Du Roc was sent off the odds-on favourite but he found the concession of 11lb to the five-year-old just too much.

Winning rider Sam Twiston-Davies said: "He jumped well and quickened nicely, but he needs to learn to settle better.

"I think something like the Lightning Chase back here over two miles might suit as he's not short of pace."

Nicholls told At The Races: "It was very nice to see him do that.

"We'll take it one step at a time. We'll find another race and the race back at Doncaster might be for him."

Nicholls and Twiston-Davies doubled up in effortless fashion when La Prezien justified cramped odds in the Premier Quality Foods "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle.

Having chased home Yanworth on his seasonal debut and won at Ludlow last time out, c onnections had considered running him in the Grade One Tolworth last weekend but opted for the easier option and he came home unchallenged by 19 lengths.

"His jumping was a bit sticky last time so we wanted to give him some confidence," said Twiston-Davies.

"The boss can stay on holiday a bit longer now!"

Anthony Bromley, racing manager for the Million In Mind syndicate, who own the winner, said: "The last five runners for the club have all won now.

"Paul was keen to run in the Tolworth, but I just felt Yorkhill and O O Seven would be tough to beat and this was just what the doctor ordered.

"He'll have to go into graded class now."

Baoulet Delaroque completed the treble in the first division of the 1stsecuritysolutions.co.uk Maiden Hurdle beating Divine Spear.

Bromley, who also manages for Potensis Bloodstock, said: "He's handled that ground so something like the Rossington Main at Haydock might be for him.

"Paul has just text me from the West Indies, though, and told me to give him an entry in the Betfair Hurdle."

Twiston-Davies added: "Paul said before he went away he was totally happy with the horses and this just proves there's nothing wrong.

"The good horses were running well and the bad horses were running bad."

The second division went to Tom Lacey's Chase End Charlie (9-2) who gave Richard Johnson another winner.

Donald McCain's Askamore Darsi (11-1) just edged out Lovely Job in the Trueman Family Novices' Handicap Chase.

For a long way up the straight it looked as though former McCain inmate Lovely Job would triumph, with that one representing owners Paul and Clare Rooney.

However, Henry Brooke managed to get Askamore Darsi up right on the line to win by a head.

"The other horse had his stamina to prove and I knew we'd stay," said Brooke.

"I don't think there's any bitterness between the two parties, things like this happen in racing.

"Donald has picked himself up and told me he'd nearly win today and he has."

James Reveley yet again proved he has few peers when it comes to riding from the front as Redkalani (5-2 favourite) made all in the Keyhole Visuals Future of Digital Media Handicap Hurdle

"He's always been big and backward and I said to dad (trainer, Keith) last night that we might have to send him over fences before he wins," said Reveley.

"To be honest, I'm surprised how well he won, but I don't think it was much of a race."

Iron Butterfly (15-8 favourite) maintained her 100 per cent strike-rate at Doncaster in the Moran Mares' Handicap Hurdle for James Eustace.

"She loves it here and I'm not sure why," said Eustace.

"I've never had a winner on the Flat here and I can't understand it as it's a lovely track.

"The owner was going to retire her to breed from her, but while she's in such good form, we may as well carry on.

"She's in at Fakenham on Tuesday but running so soon wouldn't be my style."
