The opening day of the Goffs UK January Sale at Doncaster saw an attractive catalogue of National Hunt mares and foals of 2019 produce an increase in figures across the board and the sale’s second highest NH foal average.
The opening day of the two-day sale saw 82 NH foals sold with the session topped by Mill House Stud’s Blue Bresil colt from the black-type family of Morley Street and Granville Again (Lot 71) who was purchased by B.A.A. Bloodstock for £55,000. Goldford Stud’s Kapgarde half-brother to the Stakes winner Fou Et Sage (Lot 63) was another to feature, selling to Hamish Macauley Bloodstock for £43,000, as did Upton Viva Stud’s Kayf Tara colt out of the Gr.3 winner Stravinsky Dance who sold to Richard Rohan for £40,000.
The sale also offered 38 NH mares which were topped by the six-time winner Rattlin (Lot 141) who was sold in foal to Blue Bresil to the bid of Brendan Bashford for £25,000.

We had very positive feedback following the publication of the catalogue and a lot of vendors reported that they were far busier yesterday than at the same stage last year. This was complemented with more buyers arriving this morning which has resulted in a buoyant trade with increases across the board and a healthy clearance rate of 70%.
“We would like to thank the National Hunt breeders for their continued support of the UK’s only NH foal sale and we look forward to offering a day of horses-in-training tomorrow. This features some outstanding young form horses which have also generated a significant amount of interest in recent weeks.”
