James Tate is to appeal the decision of the Ascot stewards over the demotion of Namhroodah in the Valiant Stakes at the track last Friday.

The four-year-old was placed third having initially finished first past the post in the Listed event, after being deemed to have caused interference to original third Irish Rookie.

Following an inquiry the officials promoted second-placed Red Box to first and Irish Rookie to second, along with handing Jamie Spencer a three-day ban for careless riding aboard the daughter of Sea The Stars.

Bruce Raymond, racing manager to Saeed Manana, owner of Namhroodah, said: "James is going to appeal the decision.

"Saeed Manana would like to go ahead with the appeal as he feels that he has got a good case."
