Mrs Danvers maintained her unbeaten record when scooping the near £123,000 first prize in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury.

The filly, who went through the sales ring for 1,000 guineas, showed she is worth a good sight more and could be Pattern class after she defeated 22 rivals with aplomb.

Luke Morris had the Jonathan Portman-trained juvenile not far off the pace before setting sail for home just under two furlongs out.

The 9-2 joint-favourite quickly put daylight between herself and the opposition as she made it three from three, taking top honours by a length and a quarter from Stormy Clouds, with Clem Fandango the same distance away in third.

Morris said: "She put the race to bed nicely. She got there a bit sooner than ideal and wasn't doing a great deal in front.

"She seems to be as good on quick ground as on soft. I'd be disappointed for connections if she wasn't a black-type filly.

"Luckily, she was sharp out. There was a bit of speed beside me so I was able to keep it as simple as possible."

Portman said: "It's lovely when a plan comes off. This was the plan from February and now here we are.

"The plan was here and then the St Hughes Stakes here next month, the Listed fillies' race. There's plenty of time to go for a Group race when the ground is softer.

"She's got the action for faster ground. It's fantastic."
