An own brother to the winner of the 2017 Goffs Land Rover Bumper Vision Des Flos became the overall Land Rover Sales topper when selling to Aiden Murphy for €175,000 yesterday. Consigned by Walter Connors’ Sluggara Farm, the smashing son of Balko (Lot 302 – pictured) named Etat Des Flos became the tenth horse to make six figures at what was a record breaking renewal of the Land Rover Sale.

Following yesterday’s 93% clearance rate and €43,302 average for Part 1, trade throughout part 2 continued apace and comparative figures for the entire sale returned notable increases across the board, including an overall clearance rate of 88% and a 23% rise in average to €32,291.

At the conclusion of today’s sale, Chief Executive Henry Beeby reflected on a momentous few days at Goffs:

“With four more winners at Cheltenham 17 than any other store sale, and what we thought was a catalogue of real quality spread over the two days, we were quietly hopeful of a good trade, especially after enjoying such vibrancy at Doncaster last month. However even we have been blown away by the strength and depth of the sale that has returned strong growth in every area.

Yesterday’s Part 1 average and median both rose to record levels, up by over a quarter and a third respectively, all backed up by a simply amazing clearance rate of 93%. Part 2 trade today has also proved extremely strong with records again and it is especially noteworthy that the gap between the average and median is relatively little which points to a very level trade throughout. That impression is totally endorsed by the clearance rate of 88% over the two days which was driven by a near frenzied trade from start to finish and at all levels, not least at the top with 10 lots breaking the six figure barrier, another record for the Land Rover Sale. That the turnover has grown despite offering 100 less lots is further testament to the vibrancy of the market.

As ever we are extremely grateful to our vendors who provide us with catalogues of rising quality each year and, indeed, this is a sale that now regularly competes for the very best, a fact that is then vindicated by the many successes of Land Rover graduates at the highest level year after year. Clearly these results are not lost on potential purchasers and we have been delighted to welcome so many visitors over the two days including some major first time attendees from the UK who responded so positively to the entreaties of the Goffs team and our friends at Irish Thoroughbred Marketing. We wish them luck with their Land Rover graduates and look forward to celebrating more big race wins at Cheltenham, Aintree, Punchestown and the like…”
