There was a solid renewal of the Tattersalls Ireland Ascot June Sale with an impressive set of results that closely rivalled 2016 figures. 121 lots sold with an aggregate of £715,100, a median of £4,000 (+29%) and an average of £5,910. The increased clearance rate finished on 82%, up seven points on last year.
The highlight of the day came from Denis Hogan's Boherna Stables when Winter Time, a bumper placed son of Golan, was offered as wildcard Lot 139A and knocked down to Tom Malone and trainer Jamie Snowden for £30,000.
The dispersal offered by John Ryan Racing proved popular featuring some highly sought after Lots. By the leading sire Galileo, the in demand Sandro Botticelli (Lot 42), a Listed winner of the Coral Marathon Esher Stakes, was knocked down to West Bucklands Bloodstock for £28,000.
John Ryan Racing also offered a further four lots, with the next highest price coming for Lot 41, Lord Napier. Another son of Galileo, the four-year-old gelding is out of Indian Oaks winner JACQUELINE and was knocked down to Michael Bowen for £24,000.
Yesterday Colin Bowe was crowned 2016/17 leading Irish Point to Point Handler and today he was on the leading vendor table at Ascot selling Lot 114, Inaminna to Neil Mullholland Racing for £22,000. The son of Oscar was the impressive eight length winner of a Geldings Maiden at Lisronagh from only his second start.
Trainers continued to be active throughout the sale; Fergal O'Brien purchased two lots, the highest priced being Lot 123, a Darsi gelding with placed form named Herecomestheboom. Beaten only two lengths on his only start, the Ballyboy Stables consigned performer was purchased for £21,000.
After the sale, Tattersalls Ireland Director of Horses in Training Richard Pugh commented;
"We are extremely satisfied with today's sale at Ascot. Last year's sale had the added attraction of a dispersal from West Lockinge Farm which contributed over £270,000 to the turnover. Today's sale, which finished with a turnover of £715,100 has nearly matched last year's aggregate and without a dispersal of this calibre. Trainers and agents have turned out to Ascot in their droves which proves that clients continue to show increasing confidence in sales at this venue. We now turn our attention to the Ascot July Sale which takes place on Tuesday 18 July and already there is a heightened demand from vendors for places."
