All 152 two-year-olds in the Goffs UK Doncaster Breeze Up Sale on 11-12 April 2017 have been made eligible for the lucrative Swedish Derby and Oaks Series in a ground-breaking initiative between Goffs UK and the Swedish Racing Authority.

The ten-race series has been created by the Swedish Racing Authority for three year olds to be run in 2018 and is worth SEK9.4 million (£864,000 /€992,000). The series runs from mid-June to mid-August and the value of the Swedish Derby will be doubled in 2018, with a prize fund of SEK3 million (£275,000/€316,000).

Alongside the Derby, eligibility for this series includes entry in to the SEK1.2 million Voter and the SEK1 million Hurricane, whilst the Sofiero and the Derby Day Sprint are worth SEK500,000 each. In addition, the Derby Consolation and the Derby Trial are worth SEK300,000 each whilst the SEK1.4million Swedish Oaks and the SEK400,000 Altamira are restricted to fillies only.

Another huge boost is the Triple Crown Bonus of SEK1.5 million, which will be awarded if the same horse wins the Swedish Derby, the Voter and the Hurricane.

This eligibility follows on from the success of Goffs UK Breeze Up graduates in Scandinavia, with Victor Kalejs being crowned Champion 2YO in Sweden last year and recent multiple stakes winners Easy Road and Hoku being bought at this sale.

Goffs UK Managing Director Tony Williams has been instrumental in this new initiative and commented:

"We are delighted to have made the entire Breeze Up catalogue eligible for the lucrative Swedish Derby and Oaks Series as it offers all owners, both domestic and international, the opportunity to run for substantial sums of money in these prestigious races. The Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale has outperformed all others in Scandinavia in recent years and we are extremely excited to be growing this relationship in 2017 and beyond."

Filip Zwicky has recently been appointed as Goffs UK Scandinavian agent in addition to him fulfilling the same role at Goffs for 10 years and is another who has been instrumental in this new initiative. He commented:

"It has been an ever-growing wish from Scandinavian owners and trainers to be able to enter their Breeze Up purchases in the valuable Swedish Derby and Oaks Series but an early closing date has made it impossible – until now. This is the first time in history that a Sales Company has entered their entire catalogue for the series and by doing so, we are offering our clients a chance to win these valuable races that is not available at any other Breeze Up sale. I’m extremely excited about the new initiative and am looking forward to assisting the growing number of Scandinavian purchasers in Doncaster on 11 and 12 April”.
