A new format for the 2016 Goffs UK Spring Horses-in-Training Sale at Doncaster will see a day dedicated to Point-to-Pointers and young horses with form followed by a full day of HIT from the UK and Ireland’s leading owners and trainers. The catalogue is now online and is in the post.

The 2016 Spring Sale will open with the Store Session on Tuesday 17 May, for which 260 Stores are catalogued, and will follow with the two day Spring HIT Sale on Wednesday 18 & Thursday 19 May. The HIT Sale will be broken down into two days as follows:

  • Day 1 (Wednesday 18 May – sale starts at 12 noon): Featuring predominately Irish Point-to-Pointers along with young horses with recent form and the annual Million In Mind Dispersal. Select Supplementary Lots will be accepted up until the time of sale.
  • Day 2 (Thursday 19 May – sale starts at 10am): End of season dispersals from some of the UK and Ireland’s leading owners and trainers.

One of the highlights of each NH sale season is the annual Million In Mind draft, run by Anthony Bromley and David Minton of Highflyer Bloodstock. This year offers a particularly strong group of horses headlined by the Grade 2 winner and last start Grade 1 placed Le Prezien (Lot 305) as well as the Stakes winning mare The Organist (304) who has won four of her five career starts. Other high class entries currently include Voix D'Eau (504) who won the Grade 2 Silver Trophy Chase at Cheltenham on his most recent start, Solar Impulse (531) who won the Gr.3 Grand Annual Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival this season, Graded winners Ned Stark (516), Newberry New (501) and many more.

Wednesday’s sale has been specifically shortened to allow the focus to be on a strong session of Point-to-Pointers alongside the Million In Mind draft referenced above. A number of winning Pointers have already been catalogued and that session will be taking a select number of supplementary entries from horses that have performed well in Irish Points over the next 10 days. All the Irish Pointers will be stabled together in Yards A & B next to the sale pavilion with race replay touch screens available in the hospitality suite within these Yards.  Goffs UK NH HIT Sales have made an excellent start to the year having sold Samcro for £335,000 – the highest priced Pointer sold in 2016.

Commenting on the launch of the Spring catalogue, Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said: “There are a number of big changes to the Spring Sale this year, the biggest will see the Store Sale held ahead of the Horses-in-Training Sale which, in turn, starts with a day focussing on Point-to-Pointers and the annual Million In Mind Dispersal, and the feedback we have received from our clients is very positive. Million In Mind always proves to be a huge draw and we are grateful that Anthony Bromley and David Minton have chosen us to handle their horses once again.

“Our two day HIT Sale will open with a dedicated day for Pointers and young form horses which will build up to a Select Supplementary session in the evening and these horses will be stabled together. We want to give these horses maximum exposure to the huge buying bench the Spring Sale attracts every year and to ensure this is the case, we will be starting that day at 12 noon which will allow all buyers a morning of inspections following a full day of Stores.

“The second day of the HIT Sale will feature the dispersal drafts from most of the UK and Ireland’s leading NH owners and trainers and we have been very well supported once again. From start to finish we will be offering some very high class horses and we are confident that in the coming fortnight we will secure more top class Pointers and horses with form.”
