Explosive trade witnessed at the November National Hunt Sale continued through to yesterday's sale and turnover for the foal section, with a day's selling still left to go, hit €11,636,950, already 16 per cent greater than 2016's total four-day foal sale aggregate of €9,995,600.

The average for the day compared with the same session in 2016 increased by 20 per cent to €20,186, while the day's median rose by 14 per cent to €16,000. Turnover for the day was up by 14 per cent and horses sold at a healthy clearance rate of 76 per cent.

A Milan half-brother to the talented but sadly ill-fated FAYONAGH was bought by Grange Stud from Galbertstown Stud for €78,000 topping the day's list (Lot 857).

FAYONAGH, a Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham December Sale graduate last year and winner of the Weatherbys Champion Bumper (Gr1) at Cheltenham and the Punchestown Champion Bumper (Gr1), was being prepared this autumn by trainer Gordon Elliott for a hurdling career having won her first start over timber. Sadly, she broke her hind leg on the gallops in October.

"The Milans and Soldier Of Fortunes are going well," said Grange Stud's David Magnier, who also spent €36,000 on a colt by Soldier Of Fortune (Lot 999). "The Milan is a lovely horse and the Soldier of Fortune is a real bonny colt too."

A January-born Flemensfirth colt from the Beeches Stud fetched €75,000, bought by Kevin Ross Bloodstock and Ben Case (Lot 829).

"He is by a fabulous sire, from a good family, is out of a Kayf Tara mare and is a good-looking sort," said Ross of the colt from the sameDIAMOND SAL, RING THE BOSS and Theatre Girl family as Lot 612, a Kayf Tara colt bought earlier this week by Henrietta Knight for €66,000.

A match developed between Fiona Magee, standing with Richard Rohan, against Timmy O'Byrne for the day's penultimate Soldier Of Fortune (Lot 1013) colt and it was O'Byrne who ended up successful with a bid of €72,000.

"He is a very nice horse, a good walking sort and by a very good proven sire," said O'Byrne of the Mountain View Stud-offered colt from the family of AFSOUN, AGRAPART and BALTHAZAR KING. "I am not sure yet whether he will be for re-sale."

The final day of foal trade at the November National Hunt Sale is today, Thursday 16 November at 10am with the sale of Mares concluding the November National Hunt Sale on Friday 17 November, commencing at 11am.
