The five-day Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale 2019 concluded with a superb set of figures boasting a record median price of €12,000, the second-best average in the sale's history of €16,600 following on from last year's record-breaking average of €16,866, and gross sales of €12,167,650.

The four foal sessions also produced a record median of €13,750, an increase of 20% on 2018, and its second-best average price of €16,830. The clearance rate was a healthy 71% with 642 foals changing hands, while 28 lots sold for €50,000 or more.

The foal sale also produced the best prices given for colt and filly foals since 2007 - the sale's highlight being the sale of Altior's Camelot half-brother bought by Kevin Doyle for €155,000 (Lot 560).

The week's top-priced filly foal was purchased by Rathmore Stud for €88,000. She is a daughter of Flemensfirth and from the family of Hurricane Fly (Lot 612).

The €100,000 Doctor Dino gelding who topped the sale's opening yearling session was also the best price given for a yearling at the November NH Sale since 2007 (Lot 50).

Thursday's final foal session produced a joint top-price of €40,000 given for colts by Malinas (Lot 960 - left) and Soldier of Fortune (Lot 1069 - right). They were bought by Redpender Stud and Moanmore Stables.

The concluding broodmare session was topped by Camelia De Cotte (Lot 1136), the former Willie Mullins-trained and Susannah Ricci-owned three-time graded chase winner. By Laveron, she sold for €140,000 and was bought by Treasa O'Keeffe and partner Rowland Crellin, breeder of the brilliant eight-time Grade 1 winner Cue Card.

"Camelia De Cotte was a very good racehorse, and she is a traditional National Hunt mare," said O'Keeffe of the mare in-foal to Australia and from the Closutton draft. "She will probably come back to visit a stallion in Ireland."

Earlier this week, Peel Hall Stables sold a Kayf Tara colt (Lot 435) for €65,000 and today reinvested funds in two new National Hunt mares, the most high-profile being the dual graded-winning hurdler Limini (Lot 1137). The Peintre Celebre mare is also in-foal to Australia and was offered by Closutton.

"She is for me and a couple of partners, who are dipping their toes in the water and getting involved for the first time - she should be great foundation mare," said Kinsey. "Her race record speaks for itself; she has a good cover and I think she was value."

At the conclusion of the five-day November National Hunt Sale, Tattersalls Ireland CEO Matt Mitchell reflected on the sale;

"The trade has been consistently strong this week. The buyers are focussed on quality in terms of pedigree and conformation, reflecting the same trend in the store market. Breeders who were fortunate to have what the market sought were well rewarded.

"We welcomed a large contingent of purchasers to Fairyhouse this week with robust domestic representation and an increased presence of UK and French customers.

"Today concludes the 2019 National Hunt sales at Tattersalls Ireland but we look forward to welcoming you back here on Saturday, 16 November for the November Flat Foal and Breeding Stock Sale which starts at 11am."
