A €2 million top lot and significant gains across the board were the highlights of a superb first day at Goffs Orby Sale. Turnover rose by 14%, despite almost 30 less horses offered compared with Day 1 last year, while average rose by 33% to €144,222 and median by 27% to €85,000. A strong clearance rate of 88% was recorded.
The star of the show today was Glenvale Stud’s beautiful Galileo own sister to the the three time Group 1 winner Alice Springs (Lot 165) who sold to Phoenix Thoroughbreds for €2 million.
Bidding continued apace as the very next lot, a Kingman half-brother to Stakes winner Alkasser from the family of Anthem Alexander and Dandy Man (Lot 166), sold to David Redvers for €850,000 having been consigned by Noel O’Callaghan’s Mountarmstrong Stud. Another to sell for €850,000 was Lot 203, the Showcasing own-sister to Tasleet from Baroda & Colbinstown Studs, who was knocked down to Mark Player.
Topping a significant draft of purchases by Godolphin was Lot 140, the Sea The Stars filly from Luke Lillingston’s Mount Coote Stud who sold for €750,000.
s well as today's sales topper, the Glenvale Stud draft also provided another highlight on Day 1 when their No Nay Never filly (Lot 100), who hails from the family of High Chaparral and whose 2yo half-brother won first time out two weeks ago, sold for €700,000 to MV Magnier.
Trade was strong today from the outset, getting off to a flying start as the second lot into the ring reached the half million mark. Baroda and Colbinstown Studs’ Frankel half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Kingsgate Native (Lot 2) sold to Shawn Dugan for €500,000.
