Point-to-Point

Our involvement with British Point-to-Pointing

Point-to-Point

Weatherbys has a strong association with Point-to-Point racing courtesy of our involvement with the Point-to-Point Racing Company Ltd; a joint venture with the Point-to-Point Authority (PPA).

The Point-to-Point Race Planner

The Point-to-Point Racing Company Ltd. produce and provide an array of products and services for owners, starting with the Point-to-Point Race Planner. This annual publication includes full race conditions, plus information on how to enter your horse, either online, through the Point-to-Point Racing Company, or secretary, for each individual meeting; an essential tool for any Point-to-Point owner or keeper.

The National Website

The sport’s national website, pointtopoint.co.uk, was re-launched in 2015, and is hosted and maintained by the Point-to-Point Racing Company Ltd. To access the site’s key features you will need to become a member, something you can do on a month-by-month or annual paid subscription.

Two levels of Membership are available; the first (Premium) gives access to the news, features, entries and results, the other (Premium VIP) has all the same features but also allows access to video replays of that season’s races, and archive videos going back to 2008.  Subscribers of both levels are automatically signed up to receive the weekly digital e-magazine GoPointing, published weekly through the season.

The site also has comprehensive owners’ and riders’ sections which contain information, products and downloads for all active participants in the sport – including the Hunter Certificate, Horse and Jockey Sponsorship information and RQC’s.

The Point-to-Point Racing Company also sends out weekly lists of qualified entries to Point-to-Point entry secretaries, produces around 120 racecards through the season, dispatches the annual Point-to-Point Race Planner, and provides weekly and annual statistics to the PPA.

Form Guides

We also know that many owners like to keep up to date with Point-to-Point form and we produce a weekly form supplement – the Loose Leaf Form Guide - which covers every Point-to-Point and Hunter Chase run in the UK. The race analysis includes in-depth paddock, betting and in-running comments.

Every year we then compile the season’s form and publish the Point-to-Point & Hunter Chase Yearbook, to provide a written record of the season. Each edition also includes lifetime horse form and a comprehensive annual and historical statistical section.

Hunter Certificates

Your horse has to fulfil certain eligibility criteria and hold a valid Hunter Certificate, which will require a signature from a nominated signatory of the Hunt, before it can compete in a Point-to-Point race.

Weatherbys, working closely with the Point-to-Point Authority (PPA), is responsible for registering Hunter Certificates. And, also for checking that each horse meets the eligibility criteria, as laid down by the British Horseracing Authority.

Hunter certificates lodged, along with payment, by 12 noon on a Thursday will be allowed to make an entry the following week. Race entries are normally made a week in advance of each Point-to-Point meeting, so from submission of the Hunter Certificate to your horse coming under starter’s orders usually takes a fortnight. The 2023/24 Hunter Certificate can be downloaded here.

The Equine Services team also administers registration of Point-to-Point sponsorships, plus, the authorisations needed for the keeper to enter and declare horses, on behalf of the owner.
