Scarlet Dragon's hurdling debut has been delayed after an unsatisfactory scope.

Trainer Alan King was intending to saddle the five-year-old in a novice hurdle this weekend, but the Barbury Castle handler must now revise plans.

Scarlet Dragon was a fine Flat horse under the guidance of his former trainer Eve Johnson Houghton, for whom he won five races in the Henry Ponsonby silks, and could still end up running at the Cheltenham Festival.

King said: "I was going to run him at Newbury on Saturday but he didn't scope right the other day so he will go for the Dovecote at Kempton.

"He was a very good Flat horse and he has been very good at home.

"If he goes and wins the Dovecote then we can go on to the Supreme."
