Gavin Cromwell looking for answers for Espoir D'Allen flop

Espoir D'Allen is undergoing routine tests after flopping at Leopardstown on Sunday.

Gavin Cromwell's four-year-old was sent off the 4-5 favourite for the Spring Juvenile Hurdle having won his first four starts over timber impressively.

However, after racing freely in the hands of Barry Geraghty, he found disappointingly little at the business end of the race and finished fourth of the five runners, beaten 23 lengths.

Cromwell said: "He's OK. We're having the vets check him out, but we haven't come to any conclusion yet."

Geraghty added in his www.attheraces.com blog: "Espoir D'Allen was disappointing in the Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday. He was a bit keen early on, and that would have cost him a little bit, but he stopped very quickly in the home straight. You couldn't put that down to his keenness.

"We didn't see his true colours. It just wasn't him. For whatever reason, he didn't give his running. Hopefully he can bounce back from this."
