Glamorous Approach tops trade on final day of Goffs February Sale

Glamorous Approach, a dual Listed winning daughter of New Approach from Jim Bolger’s Glebe House Stables (Lot 578 - pictured), provided the highlight of the third and final day of Goffs February Sale when the five year old, who was also placed twice at Group 3 level last year, was purchased by Ballylinch Stud for €280,000.

Two lots later another filly by New Approach (Lot 580) was in great demand as the winning four year old Harrana was sold to Tally Ho Stud for €150,000.  Consigned by the Aga Khan Studs, Harrana is out of Listed winner Hazafara who is a half-sister to the Derby winning Champion Harzand.

At the conclusion of a strong renewal of the February Sale, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“As Europe’s largest midwinter sale it is clear that Goffs February is the preferred option for many breeders at this time of year as it combines a wide selection of weanlings with an eclectic mix of mares and fillies with breeding potential.

“Over half the sale focuses on weanlings and they enjoyed a vibrant trade with strong competition from a huge group of pinhookers who turned out in force to continue the trends witnessed at our market leading November Foal Sale. That was especially evident at the top of the market with four six figure weanlings this year and a number of fierce bidding duels for several of the most desirable lots. The result is a set of statistics that far outstrip last year with average and median both growing by over a third, and the clearance rate also making better reading.

“Today’s Breeding Stock session has not matched last year in some respects but such is the nature of mixed sales as there are times when a particular dispersal benefits a sale and boosts figures. However when such one-offs are not catalogued it is does not necessarily mean trade is lacking but rather that it reflects the lots on offer. So we are perfectly content with today as we welcomed a large international group of buyers back to Goffs and our €280,000 top price comfortably exceeds that 12 months ago.

“Of course this year’s catalogue was smaller by over 120 lots when compared to last year as we focussed on relative quality so it was unlikely we were going to match the 2017 turnover. However all the other figures show growth so we have started the year as we finished 2017 with great positivity, and have much to look forward to in the coming months.

“For now we extend our thanks to each vendor and every purchaser for their support as we can’t do anything without them”.”
