Harry Whittington sets sights on Supreme date for Simply The Betts

Simply The Betts booked his place in Harry Whittington's team for Cheltenham with a good effort in the Sky Bet Supreme Scottish Trial Novices' Hurdle at Musselburgh on Sunday.

Whittington is happy for the five-year-old to line up for the Supreme itself at next month's Festival after he finished in second place behind Beyond The Clouds at the Scottish venue.

"That was fantastic. Sean (Bowen) gave him a beautiful ride. He put him to sleep and we've always thought that was the right way to ride him, for a turn of foot," he said.

"Andrew (Brooks, owner) is keen to have a runner in the Supreme. He's earned that with the way he ran at Musselburgh. He's obviously still a maiden.

"I can see him running a nice race in the Supreme. If he wins great, if he doesn't then he can run in novice races all next season. That's the way we're thinking.

"Sean loved him and said he will be a much stronger horse next year. He also thinks he'll be better for a fence, so he's very exciting."
