Newcastle receives go-ahead

racing

This afternoon's jumps fixture at Newcastle has passed an early-morning inspection and goes ahead as planned.

Clerk of the course James Armstrong had intended to assess conditions at 8am due to the possibility of frost.

But overnight temperatures did not drop below freezing so Armstrong was able to make an earlier-than-expected call.

The going is soft, heavy in places, with the first of six races due off at 1.40pm.
