Sedgefield forced to abandon due to snow

racing

This afternoon's meeting at Sedgefield has been abandoned due to snow following a third morning inspection.

The track was raceable when officials had their first look at 8am, but with snow falling at the time and more forecast, it was felt prudent to assess the situation again at 10am.

With snow beginning to settle on the track, a third inspection was called for 11am, after which officials had no option but to draw stumps and call off proceedings.

The track tweeted: "Unfortunately we have had to abandon today's meeting. However we are still open for the public to attend and watch the away racing."

Sedgefield's abandonment means Market Rasen will fly the flag for National Hunt racing on Tuesday, with an all-weather card taking place at Southwell.
