Weatherbys Champion Bumper Leading Sires #3

To mark the 25th Anniversary of our sponsorship of the Weatherbys Champion Bumper and the launch of nhstallions.co.uk – a site dedicated to promoting National Hunt stallions - Martin Stevens has compiled a top five of Weatherbys Champion Bumper sires.

#3 - PRESENTING

Sire of one winner (Dunguib, 2009) and one runner-up (Some Present, 2009)

The late multiple champion National Hunt sire fielded the first two home in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper in 2009, with Dunguib streaking to a ten-length victory over Some Present.

The paternal half-brothers managed to beat into third a future Gold Cup winner — at Ascot, not Cheltenham! — in Rite Of Passage.

The manner of that victory made Dunguib one of the biggest talking horses of the noughties, and he duly won Grade 1 novice hurdles at Fairyhouse and Leopardstown in the following season — though he was beaten at odds-on in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and his form tailed off a little thereafter.

Presenting, a son of Mtoto who finished third to Lammtarra in the 1995 Derby before his retirement to Glenview Stud, has an impeccable record at the Cheltenham Festival generally, with two Gold Cup winners on his record in Denman and War Of Attrition along with the likes of First Lieutenant, Weapon’s Amnesty and Yorkhill.
