A strong draft numbering in excess of 60 from Sheikh Mohammed's Darley heads an exciting catalogue for the 2016 Tattersalls February Sale. The Newmarket-based operation will offer 45 lots under the Godolphin banner and a further 16 lots from various trainers including John Gosden, William Haggas and Simon Crisford.

Europe’s premier midwinter sale takes place Thursday 4th February and the catalogue can now be viewed online at www.tattersalls.com. In total the catalogue numbers 387 lots and comprises broodmares, fillies/horses in training, weanlings and two-year-olds.

Amongst the eyecatching lots from Godolphin are the three-year-old filly SOOFIAH, a half-sister to the dual Group 1 winner SAJJHAA and the Listed placed LOVELY STORY, a daughter of the Grade 1 winner HUSH MONEY. The broodmares to attract attention within the Godolphin draft include DOLDRUMS, a half-sister to the Group 1 winner VACARE and EMIRATES JOY, a half-sister to Group 1 Racing Post Trophy second ZIP TOP, both in foal to EXCEED AND EXCEL, and DESERT SUNRISE, a half-sister to the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes winner PRIMO VALENTINO, in foal to IFFRAAJ.

Any draft from Prince Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms attracts the interest of breeders throughout the world and the Tattersalls February Sale features a consignment of 18 lots made up of eleven fillies and mares and seven colts and geldings. Amongst the fillies on offer are MIDST, a half-sister to the Group 3 Athasi Stakes winner FLYING JIB, ALMEDA, a half-sister to the Group 3 winner and Group 1 placed PHOENIX TOWER, TRAIN TIME, the half-sister to the Listed winner PROTECTRESS and WINTERTON, the half-sister to the Group 3 winner EXCESS KNOWLEDGE.

The progeny of fillies and mares bought at the Tattersalls February Sale enjoyed a stellar year on the racecourse last year with the Group 1 Irish Oaks second JACK NAYLOR one of nine Group and Listed winners in 2015. Also a Group 3 winner, JACK NAYLOR’s dam FASHIONABLE was purchased from the Juddmonte draft at this sale in 2012 for just 10,000 guineas as was GREEN ROOM, the dam of 2014 Group 1 Fillies’ Mile winner TOGETHER FOREVER, bought for just 20,000 guineas. Another outstanding February Sale purchase was KHELEYF’S SILVER, purchased for 15,000 guineas at this sale in 2010. She is the dam of 2014 Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner TIGGY WIGGY who was subsequently sold at the 2015 December Mares Sale for 2,100,000 guineas.

This year’s catalogue features mares in foal to proven Group 1 sires ACCLAMATION, AUTHORIZED, EXCEED AND EXCEL, IFFRAAJ and KYLLACHY, as well as promising Group 1 winning young sires FOXWEDGE, KINGMAN, LETHAL FORCE, MAYSON, POET’S VOICE and TORONADO, all of whom look set to attract breeders from throughout Europe and further afield.

Grade 1 Beverley D Stakes winner EURO CHARLINE was purchased at the 2012 Tattersalls February Sale as a weanling for just 800 guineas and pinhookers look equally well catered for with a diverse selection of weanlings by proven Group sires including KODIAC, MASTERCRAFTSMAN and PASTORAL PURSUITS as well as by first crop sires MAYSON and MOST IMPROVED.

The Tattersalls February Sale has also established a reputation as a consistent source of high class horses in training with the evergreen SOVEREIGN DEBT leading the way. The sale-topper at this sale in 2014 registered four victories at Group/Listed level in 2015 for trainer Dandy Nicholls. Amongst those horses in training that look certain to attract attention are ZEBSTAR, the Group 1 Prix Morny fourth coming from Brendan Powell’s Frenchman’s Lodge Stables, THE STEWARD and ALEATOR, the lightly-raced pair from Sir Mark Prescott’s Heath House Stables, rated 93 and 88 respectively and WAKEA, fourth in last year’s Group 3 Sagaro Stakes for Jeremy Noseda and rated 97.

Commenting on the 2016 Tattersalls February Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said: "The Tattersalls February Sale has been a great source of quality breeding stock in its short history, illustrated perfectly by the Group 1 Irish Oaks runner-up JACK NAYLOR last year and the Group 1 winners TOGETHER FOREVER and TIGGY WIGGY in 2014. This year’s renewal looks a typically commercial catalogue with plenty to attract both domestic and international buyers to Park Paddocks."

As usual the sale will be preceded by the ever popular TBA Stallion Parade which starts at 9.30am followed immediately by the sale.”

The catalogue can be viewed online at www.tattersalls.com and is available from Tattersalls and all Tattersalls overseas representatives from Monday, 18th January.
