Jonjo O'Neill is keeping an eye on the weather before deciding whether to run Demon D'Aunou in the Matchbook Imperial Cup at Sandown on Saturday.

The Jackdaws Castle trainer does not want the ground too soft for the lightly-raced five-year-old in the valuable two-mile handicap hurdle.

"Jonjo is just monitoring the ground at the minute. He's going to see what it's like," said Frank Berry, racing manager to JP McManus.

"It would be a step up for him but he's in good old form. The ground will be the deciding factor whether he goes or not.

"If it gets too soft, he won't be going."

The going at Sandown was described on Tuesday morning as soft and good to soft in the back straight.

The sponsors are offering a £100,000 bonus should the winner of the Imperial Cup go on to take a race at Cheltenham next week.

Demon D'Aunou holds entries in the Randox Health County Hurdle and Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle at the Festival.
