Megan Nicholls could try to make her mark on the international stage as she has been invited to contest Sweden's Lady Jockeys' Thoroughbred World Championship at Bro Park on August 5.

Nicholls won Arena Racing Company's Silk Series in 2017 so she receives an automatic invitation to the five-race event along with French ace Maryline Eon, who won the inaugural competition last year.

Invitations for the points-based encounter will be issued to a further eight female jockeys, with the likes of Hayley Turner, Danish star Sara Slot and top New Zealand pilot Danielle Johnson having taken part last year.

Dennis Madsen, director of racing at the Swedish racing authority, Svensk Galopp, said, "We are delighted to be returning with the Lady Jockeys' Thoroughbred World Championship and very pleased to be able to announce our 2018 date on International Women's Day.

"The Lady Jockeys' Thoroughbred World Championship highlights the achievements of women on the international sporting stage and shares many of the aims and aspirations of the #PressforProgress campaign.

"We look forward to announcing the rest of our line-up in the coming months and putting women's sport firmly in the spotlight on Sunday, August 5."
