Jockey Niall McCullagh hopes to return to riding in March as he continues his recovery from serious injury.

McCullagh was hurt on the gallops in July but his recuperation is going well.

He suffered a collapsed lung with bruising, fractured ribs and a fractured collarbone.

McCullagh, who won the 2012 Irish St Leger on Royal Diamond, said: "I met with Mr (Paddy) Kenny (orthopaedic surgeon) recently and he was happy with my spine and shoulders.

"My injuries were life-threatening, though, and all my ribs were broken and cartilage still displaced.

"He gave them a squeeze and they were still very sore, but he's going to have another look at me at the end of January and hopefully I'll be back riding for the beginning of the Flat season in March."
