Sean Bowen is set to make a quick return to action at Newbury on Friday afternoon after escaping serious injury when taking a nasty fall from Sheer Poetry at Taunton.

The promising young jumps jockey took a tumble at the fourth-last flight in the opening race on the card and was taken off his two other rides at the meeting on Thursday.

However, his father, Haverfordwest-based trainer Peter Bowen, reports his son none the worse and all set to be in action at Newbury.

Bowen's two booked mounts include Grape Tree Flame for his father in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle.

He said: "He's riding today. He's fine - that's good news."

That means Bowen should be fine to take the ride on Al Co in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury on Saturday.

"The horse is in good form and I think he'll run all right," said Bowen snr, who trains the 2014 Coral Scottish Grand National winner.
