There was a welcome moment centre stage in what has been a tough year for jockey Robert Havlin when Alwasmiya landed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF "Bosra Sham" Fillies' Stakes at Newmarket.
Having only returned to the saddle last month after serving a six-month ban imposed on him by the racing authorities in France, the 43-year-old gained his biggest success since coming back, steering the Simon Crisford-trained two-year-old to victory in the six-furlong Listed contest.
Havlin said: "I guess that is my biggest winner since I have come back. She has got a lot of natural speed and the pace of the race now that she has moved up in grade has helped her find a nice rhythm. There was no fluke about it."
Crisford added of the 8-1 winner: "That was really nice. She travelled well and picked up nicely. She will go into Group-race company now and hopefully head towards Royal Ascot. The Commonwealth Cup is the dream."
Kim Bailey has won just about every major prize in National Hunt racing and the Andoversford handler can now add a winner on the Rowley Mile after Sunblazer (8-1) completed a double for Jim Crowley when collecting the Wingate Signs Supports #superjosh Charity Handicap.
Owner Norman Carter, who pointed towards a possible opportunity at Dundalk next month, said: "Jim Crowley gave him a fantastic ride, but I am so disappointed for Joshua Bryan (who was injured at Chelmsford on Thursday) as he has stuck by him and finished second, third and fourth on him."
He added: "He needs fast ground and we had been watching the weather for the last week, hoping it stayed as it was."
Alistair Whillans and Rowan Scott teamed up to celebrate their first winner at HQ as Donnachies Girl (2-1) ground out victory number four of the campaign when holding All My Love at bay in the EBFstallions.com Quy Mill Hotel & Spa Fillies' Handicap.
Assistant trainer Ewan Whillans said: "The race cut up nicely and it ended up being a muddling old race. I think the cheekpieces have probably helped. She has had a good season and it's nice to have a crack at something half-decent."
The Richard Hannon-trained Maghaweer (7-2) got the ball rolling for Crowley when putting his previous experience to good use to claim the EBF Friends Of Racing Welfare Novice Stakes by a length.
James Doyle made it five winners in two days as he got the Charlie Appleby-trained Celestial Spheres (3-1) up by a head in the 32Red.com Handicap.
He said: "He has not run for a long time and it was nice for it to work out. He was a little bit tight for room and needed a little bit of luck, but he got it."
Performance of the day
Alwasmiya was one of the few relatively unexposed runners in the Bosra Sham Stakes and it looks like there will be plenty of better days ahead for the Simon Crisford-trained filly after she turned the Listed contest into a one-horse race.
Ride of the day
Rowan Scott pressed the buttons at the right time to ensure that Donnachies Girl crossed the line first in what was a tactical affair in the three-runner mile-and-a-half fillies' handicap.
Quote of the day
A trip to Ireland could be in the pipeline for Sunblazer after his victory on the Rowley Mile, but racing there is something of a mystery to his owner Norman Carter: "We could go to Dundalk as there is a race there on December 8 over two miles, although I don't know anything about Irish racing!"
