New turnover record at Tattersalls Autumn HIT Sale

breeding

The turnover record set last year at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale was broken on the fourth day as international buyers continued to dominate the action. The fourth day of the five-day sale saw a total of 212 lots sell for 1,788,500 guineas, taking the four-day total to a record 26,857,300 guineas. The average for the day was 8,436 guineas and the median 5,500 guineas.

The top lot on the fourth day was the two-year-old RIVER BOYNE who was knocked down to Alastair Donald for 70,000 guineas. Donald was bidding on behalf of Red Baron's Barn & Rancho Temescal whose team, headed by Tim Cohen, had left Newmarket to get back to the US in time to watch the Red Baron's Barn-owned gelding ITSINTHEPOST run in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf.

"The team saw this horse yesterday and liked him," said Donald. "His last run when second was a very good performance in a conditions race. He is lightly raced maiden and can run and win a maiden in California worth $50,000."

Trained in Ireland by Gordon Elliot, RIVER BOYNE was officially rated 91 following a recent all-weather win at Newcastle and the son of DANDY MAN is one of six horses purchased this week by Cohen’s group.

Saudi Arabian buyers have been very prominent this week buying in excess of 40 lots and another destined for the Kingdom is EVENING HILL who was purchased by Daham Bin Tawalah for 62,000 guineas. The son of HARBOUR WATCH has won twice since the publication of the catalogue for trainer Richard Hughes and was offered with a Timeform rating of 89.

"He is in-form and should suit Saudi Arabia," said Bin Tawalah

The Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale continues from 10am on Friday, November 3 and will be followed immediately by Book 4 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
