John Gosden plans to send Fencing straight to next month's Qipco 2000 Guineas after a late setback ruled him out of the AON Greenham Stakes at Newbury.
The Street Cry colt ran out an impressive winner of a Newbury Listed contest last August and was then a highly creditable third behind Camelot in the Racing Post Trophy.
Gosden had hoped to see his charge return to the track this weekend, but he is now set to bid for Classic glory on May 5 without a prep run.
"He did a very nice piece of work but a shoe came back and the clip went into his foot, so he bled," said the trainer.
"He's fit, but you can't run him and I didn't declare him for the Greenham. He'll be back and can go straight for the Guineas as there's nothing else left after the Greenham.
"I'd have no problem going straight for the Guineas with a filly, I don't like doing it as much with a colt."
