Trainer Robert Cowell could potentially have three runners in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot next month.

Stable star Prohibit grabbed the Group One prize last summer and is on course to defend his crown having been campaigned in Dubai earlier this year.

Monsieur Joe also showed up well at Meydan and was a narrow second on his European return at Longchamp, while Spirit Quartz is another upwardly-mobile sprinter.

Cowell said: "Monsieur Joe had only been back from Dubai five days and then he went to France and ran very well at Longchamp to be beaten a short-head.

"He's done a lot of travelling and I think he was perhaps a bit tired as he didn't show that customary pace early in the race, but he finished well. He's had a busy time so we'll give him a bit of a break now and he'll go straight for the King's Stand.

"He's progressed from handicaps and every time the bar has been raised, he's jumped it. I don't think there is a lot between him and Prohibit."

Prohibit is due to have his prep run for the Royal meeting in the Temple Stakes at Haydock on May 26.

"Prohibit is in good form and he came back from Dubai with Monsieur Joe. He's obviously a class act and worked nicely the other day. He'll have one more bit of work and then he'll run in the Temple en route to the King's Stand," said Cowell.

Spirit Quartz has had just three runs for Cowell having been formerly trained in Italy. Seconds at Lingfield and Naas were followed by a fine fourth in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket.

"Spirit Quartz will probably run in the Temple Stakes as well. He was fourth in the Palace House last time and he's a nice horse. After Haydock he could go for a race in France, or join the other two at Ascot. It's really good to have three really nice sprinters to go to war with," added the trainer.
