Spencer gets Qatar Racing job

Fri, 26 October 2012

Jamie Spencer has been confirmed as the retained jockey for Sheikh Fahad Al Thani's Qatar Racing operation.

The former champion jockey has signed a two-year contract with Sheikh Fahad, whose horses run under the Qatar and Pearl Bloodstock banners and is a fast emerging as a powerful presence on the racing scene.

The owner's racing manager and bloodstock advisor, David Redvers said: "I can confirm that we have agreed terms and that Jamie Spencer will be first jockey for Qatar Racing on a two-year contract, starting from January 1."

The 31-year-old rider had a stint as stable jockey for Aidan O'Brien in Ireland, while he has recently been retained to ride horses for owners Jim and Fitri Hay.

Bloodstock Al: @DanBriden Guess today will tell whether he takes in the Guineas; a prominent show + they may be tempted but otherwise you may well be right
Bloodstock Al: @DanBriden Suspect a good few of these will want further than a mile. Moonvoy has a sharper pedigree and could run into a place.
Bloodstock Al: @DanBriden @lucacumani Yes hoping he might turn out to be a Derby horse and maybe take in the Guineas en route #bestDerbytrial
