Race Verdict

The day of reckoning arrives for Camelot, the latest potential superstar from the Ballydoyle production line. There was no denying the authority of his two juvenile successes, notably the instant acceleration that hallmarked his Racing Post Trophy victory. However, at current prices he makes insufficient appeal on ground that the son of Montjeu has yet to encounter. Stable companion Power seems to have been rather overlooked in the Classic build-up but is a high-quality performer in his own right and, unlike his more highly-touted stable companion, he is proven on ground with cut. Trumpet Major impressed greatly when landing the Craven Stakes and Top Offer has to be kept on the right side in view of Roger Charlton's effusive pronouncements, whilst Born To Sea cannot be discounted either. However, with the ground likely to ride soft, the French contingent makes plenty of appeal and the form of the Prix Djebel looks especially strong this year. French Fifteen and ABTAAL were separated by just half a length at Maisons-Laffitte but positions were reversed last year when Jean-Claude Rouget's colt looked really special when routing his field at Saint-Cloud.

Selection: Abtaal        Danger: Power        Alternative: French Fifteen
