Race Verdict

Silk Drum returns off a 5lb lower mark than when winning this contest for Howard Johnson last year and his second at Doncaster latest (Takeroc third) was by far and away his best effort since joining Diane Sayer's team, while Tanks For That makes plenty of appeal after producing a career best performance to finish runner-up in the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase at Cheltenham last month. The vote, however, goes to EDGARDO SOL, who remains unexposed in this sphere. Paul Nicholls' 5-y-o showed a liking for the Merseyside venue when gamely beating subsequent Byrne Group Plate runner-up The Cockney Mackem off 16lb lower over C&D in October and a narrow defeat in the Grade 3 Vincent O'Brien County Hurdle at Cheltenham last month shows that he's arriving here at the top of his game. That effort has also been boosted with the winner, Alderwood, landing a Grade 2 hurdle race at Fairyhouse on Monday so everything points to a big run.

Selection: Edgardo Sol        Danger: Tanks For That        Alternative: Silk Drum
